Golden & Glass

When my parents were in town last week, they were only here over one weekend. During the week I had to go to work, so our big tourist-y days were limited to just Saturday and Sunday (well, they did things during the week too, but I was left out). We spent Saturday in Colorado Springs, but on Sunday we ventured north.

Our first stop was Golden to tour the Coors Brewery. I'd done the tour once last year and actually really enjoyed it, and... well, when in Colorado, right? Beer is kind of a thing here! And besides, with a last name like Miller, it's basically an unwritten rule that you stop by MillerCoors. It was kind of hilarious, though, because none of the three of us drink beer. None of us really drink at all, actually. But with the tour you get free samples. Having a beer with my parents is not something I ever expected to do, but it was fun!

I was the only one to finish my drink, but that's because I was the smart one and got hard apple cider instead of beer. ;)

After the tour, we grabbed lunch in town (and then stopped in a little candy shop to get some chocolate, because obviously) before zipping over to Denver. There's a Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Denver Botanic Gardens that I'd been dying to see all summer, and I managed to convince my parents it'd be worth seeing. "It's abstract glass sculptures! It'll be really cool, I promise!" My mom likes art and my dad likes glass, so they were game.

Let me tell you, this exhibit did NOT disappoint!

It was waayy more crowded there than any of us had anticipated and, as you can see, the weather was gray and rainy and gross, but we all enjoyed the art! It started really raining as we were nearing the end, but I still couldn't keep myself from standing out there and taking pictures. It was all just too cool! I really want to go back when the weather's nicer, or maybe at night when it's all lit up. I also want to explore the botanic gardens themselves a little bit more. It seems like such a neat place, with all sorts of winding little paths and plenty of places to get lost. If you're in the Denver area, I recommend stopping by!

Now I just need to convince more people to come visit me so I have another excuse to be a tourist around Colorado! Any takers? :)

  1. I saw the Chihuly exhibit when it was in Dallas (in the middle of the summer, oy!) ... I wish I'd made it back to see the nighttime version before it left ... so you must go see it again :) And we did the Coors tour also ... none of us are beer drinkers and only managed a few sips of the beer. I wish I'd snagged one of the non-alcoholic options instead!

    1. Haha, noted! :) The previous time I did the Coors tour I actually had a beer, and didn't totally hate it, so that was a pretty big win in my book. The hard cider was so much better, though!
